Piriformis syndrome is a neuromuscular condition that occurs when the piriformis muscle, a small muscle located deep in the buttock region, compresses or irritates the sciatic nerve. This condition can cause pain, numbness, tingling, and discomfort along the path of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back, through the hips and buttocks, and down each leg.
